Building Our Sangha Shed

Sheathing The Walls

November 1st, 2010 was an especially good day. Again meditation pushed the clouds away. I awoke to clear blue sunny skies. It stayed that way all day. At one moment, around 2 PM, there appeared to be strong winds starting up, but I just thought - "OK, NOT now. No winds needed now. Later - when I am done for the day." And the wind stopped - totally dead damned still. It was just eerie!!!!

From 1400 to 1730 I was able to: (1) finish the framing for the front lower half sides, (2) finish framing the upper 2/3rd of the clerestory wall and then lifting it into place while balancing on a swaying step ladder (yes, I can still press 200+ pounds over my head), (3) put in the blocking strips on the face of the clerestory wall section, (4) put in the first window on the clerestory, (5) put in and planed the blocking between the rafters at the front of the wall and, (6) I measured, cut and nailed the sheathing boards to cover the walls and roof of the lower section.

Getting the sheathing on the lower walls in front was a great comfort. It meant I was getting the shed protected from the rain.

Getting the sheathing on the lower roof in front was a huge success. I was clearly able to protect the shed from the rain.

November 2nd was another great day! I was able to complete the sheathing on the lower portion of the shed. These four views are from a 'walk-around' series I made after completing the work. This is the SouthEast corner.

After I got the lower walls sheathed, I wanted to get the clerestory front wall extended up and then sheathed. The top beam was about 120 pounds and it was even harder to lift it into place. I had to reach over my head while standing on the last step of the ladder which was quite shaky.

At the end of the day I had the clerestory front wall sheathed. A long, but very productive day.
