Building Our Sangha Shed

The Patio

November 10th 2010: I used those large 2x12 cedar boards as the frame for the planned patio. I made an irregular shape since I did not want to waste such expensive wood.

November 22nd 2010: I began to spread the pile of rocks around inside the framework.

November 24th 2010: I burned the brush I had been cutting and spread the ashes around inside the patio/deck framework.

November 24th 2010: The burning continued for two days and I finally got the ashes cool enough to spread in the patio framework.

November 30th 2010: The rough rock has all been spread in the patio framework.

November 30th 2010: The remaining gravel will be poured on top of the rough rock. After it settles the patio will have a brick surface which will adjust redily to the settling of the gravel over the years.

November 30th 2010: The gravel layer has been spread in the patio framework. The winter rains and snow ought to get the settling going.

April 27th 2011 through May 2nd: The gravel layer has been spread back to allow large rocks to be placed against the framework to reduce the 'spreading' of the form.

April 27th 2011 through May 2nd: The spreading of rocks continues. I am using the rocks I raked down from the uphill side of the driveway.

April 27th 2011 through May 2nd: The spreading of rocks continues.

April 27th 2011 through May 2nd: The spreading of rocks continues.

April 27th 2011 through May 2nd: The spreading of rocks continues.

April 27th 2011 through May 2nd: The north side of the shed is bare of plant life and rocks.

June 25th through 30th 2011: Aaron made his first visit to us and used his skills to pave the patio. My 'concrete' saw is a failure so he is unable to cut the large bricks to fit tightly in the irregular areas.
