Building Our Sangha Shed

Somewhere in Time - Status Views of Our Progress 'To Date'

A reality of our situation has been that we are often in two different countries. Miles and hours separated us. The activities of any single day were hard to convey in a single e-mail without photos and lengthy comments. We had no Internet access until 2012 and telephone calls were too expensive. Skype and FaceBook proved to be a happy set of answers for us. I was able to get access to Internet in motels, cafes and some rest areas along the highways.

I used those access points to upload photos and add commentary to my FaceBook page. I soon realized that I had no record except what was on FB. So, I began to retrieve my online records from FB for my records. To make my uploads more efficient, I began to prepare text files before I went to those Internet access points. So, these web pages benefit from those early files.

November 30th 2010: A 'status' view of the Sangha Shed at the close of my first period of work on developing our land. The shed is still a work 'in progress', yet it is well and surely 'on it's way' to completion.

November 30th 2010: The status views rotated around to the southwest corner.

December 6th 2010: The status view from the northwest corner was also the 'last' photo on the day I was leaving for Russia - for the winter.

December 6th 2010: The last view as I was leaving for Weed to catch the bus.

March 28th 2011: I wanted some status views of the land from farther away. The Greentree Street cul de sac affords the best 'long-range' view.

March 28th 2011: A telephoto view from the Greentree Street cul de sac.

March 28th 2011: A tighter view from the Greentree Street cul de sac. John Ebejer's drilling rig is more clear. He left it here for the winter after finishing the drilling. Now that spring is here we will get the pump installed and the pipes in the trench to the house.

March 28th 2011: This tighter view is of the downhill side of our land. The open holes are from the percolation tests. We will close them after the septic lines are installed...

April 27th 2011: After cutting the brush on the uphill side of the driveway I burned it in front of the shed. Just in time - the burning season is almost over.

April 28th 2011: This view is looking east along Mountain Street after cutting the brush on the uphill side of the driveway. The juniper on the edge of the street had been surrounded by buck brush.

February 29th 2012: A thin 1 to 2 inch snowfall pelted the shed in a couple of hours on Leap Year Day.

February 29th 2012: The snowfall covered the patio.

February 29th 2012: The snow was gone within an hour after taking this last photo.

March 4th 2012: Five days after the snow was gone we were having a shirt sleeve barbeque on the patio.

March 9th 2012: I'm having lunch on the patio. Liza decides to get funny with the camera.... {:-))

April 22nd 2012: Spring windstorms tossed the plastic chairs about and moved the small trailer off its blocks on one corner. I was anxious to get rid of the little trailer, but decided to wait until fall.

May 26th 2012: The summer was to see little change in the Sangha Shed environment. The small trailer was going to stay for a while.

September 20th 2012: I knew we were now 'stuck' with needing the small trailer for another year. We would not get the basement walls poured until November. I was sure I'd not have enough time to get the forms stripped and salvaged in order to use the material to build the second shed before I would be leaving for Russia in December.

September 20th 2012: I put a tarp roof over the small trailer since the roof had a leak.

September 25th 2012: I moved the excess furniture into the shed and put our small chemical toilet in there as well.

September 20th 2012: A status view for the Sangha Shed area up to this moment. The tarped stuff on the patio is furniture that will go into the trailer and some back into the shed after the 'retrofit' is completed.

October 19th 2012: I have come to recognize after many years that when I am anxious to get something done, or gone, that I have a tendency to crowd things or activities together to force the issue. The trailers were a case in point. I wanted to be rid of them. By moving the small trailer to the Sangha Shed pad, I was crowding the shed. By moving the big trailer to the same area, I was really crowding my sense of comfort. And it would have to sit like this until 2014 before I'd feel the pain enough.

October 19th 2012: Yep, beginning to look like a red neck encampment. Something has got to go!

October 19th 2012: Soon, very soon!

February 19th 2013: A 3 inch snowfall covered the place under a nice white blanket.

May 14th 2013: This view of the Sangha Shed is from the Greentree Place cul de sac.

October 11th 2013: I moved the small trailer out and did a 'smack down' to it. It is now GONE! Yay! Yahoo! Free at last. Free at last. And a special "Thanks" to Maia who had given it to us. It had served well, but the body had become detached from the floor due to dry rot. It needed to go to its' final rest - the Siskiyou County Landfill near Yreka!

May 3rd 2014: Shortly after coming back to the land in April, I asked neighbor, Greg Williams, for help in moving the big trailer. He promised to come up in a couple of days, but showed up an hour after the call. Now that's a friend!

May 3rd 2014: The front view after the trailer is gone. Thanks Greg!

September 14th 2014: The summer is winding down. There's a bit of 'disorganization' here, but the Sangha Shed area is actually getting closer to its fall 'clean-up'. That blue tarp on the right is covering our four sequoia seedlings. I planted them in large pots to allow them to acclimatize. If they survive the winter, I will plant them close together in strategic places down the hill. I want their shade in a 1,000 years, but I do not want them to block our view of Shasta.

September 14th 2014: The west side of the Sangha Shed area is coming in for some serious cleanup. The two saws will be moved down to the basement after the floor is poured. The wood piles will be moved into a 'new' wood rack, to be constructed by next Spring.

November 24th 2014: The 2014 building season is almost over. The basement floor has been poured and dried. The basement is now where almost all construction materials have been stockpiled. The water tank has been drained and moved into the basement. The big trailer is gone! And the new Oak au Vino Shed is under construction.
