Wall Framing, Sheathing and Erecting

May 7th 2014: I framed and sheathed the north wall while it was laying on the floor deck. I positioned it for the lift. I used bricks and concrete blocks to hold the wall at each 'step' of the lift. I would lift one corner and put one or two bricks under that side. Then I'd go to the other corner and repeat. It took about ten rotations of this before I had the wall at the 30+ degree point. I triple-checked the position of the bottom edge at the rear of the floor deck. Then I nailed a couple of boards to hold the bottom from sliding off the back. And then I summoned all of my strength and focused my thinking and energy. I grabbed the middle of the top of the wall and began to lift it to the vertical. I had an 'emergency' 2x4 resting on my shoulder just in case I could not get the wall to the vertical position. But I did manage to get it vertical in one swift movement. It was a good thing I was successful because the 2x4 slid off my shoulder and onto the ground.....phew! I was fortunate that there was no wind. I was able to get the temporary braces nailed at the sides. That would hold it well enough until I could get the end walls into place.

May 7th 2014: The north wall was now in place. The two piles of blocks and bricks were still on the deck. I had to remove them quickly so that I could lay out the two end wall sections. Time was critical. I had already cut the materials so assembly was all that was needed.

May 7th 2014: The north wall looks 'immense' from the north side. The large expanse of plywood on the 10 foot high by 10 foot wide wall made it look even larger.

May 7th 2014: I got the two end wall frames nailed into the floor deck and to the north wall in less than 30 minutes.

May 7th 2014: I got the west end wall sheathed and vertically squared at the same time.

May 7th 2014: I got the east end wall sheathed and vertically squared next. Now there was little chance of any wall to collapse.

May 7th 2014: The two end walls are framed and sheathed.

May 8th 2014: The south (front) wall was framed on the deck, lifted into place and sheathed after it was vertical.

May 8th 2014: The front (south) wall is fully-sheathed.
