A PhotoTour of Our Land

February 12, 2010: This was the first photo I took of the area where we eventually found our lot. This view is looking east along Dennis Street. The small hill directly ahead is the peninsula that has the cul de sac for Mountain Street at its crest. The lot we bought is on the right side of that hill just out of view, looking south toward Mt. Shasta.

We start our tour of KRCE Unit #2 Lot #130 from the point of view of the birds, or gods, or flying people, about 3,000 feet above the ground. This image was created using GoogleEarth's ZoomIn view. It is somewhat distorted since it is made from a flat image, but the effect is that of a 'fly in'. Our land is just above the vertical center to the right side of the photo. The neighbors are not close, nor too far away. They are just '3 Bear close'.

We have descended to about 1,000 feet. Our land is to the top right part of the photo. The two white specks are trailers and the first shed is near the left trailer 'speck'. The 'photo' is a screen shot from my computer of the GoogleEarth map dated July 7, 2012.

We are now about 300 feet above the ground. The 'photo' is a screen shot from my computer of the GoogleEarth map dated July 7, 2012.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking down on the land from the Greentree Street cul de sac. The old graded house pad is in the lower mid-section of the photo. This view captures the fullness of the setting of our land against the backdrop of Black Mountain and Hornbrook in the far top-right section of the photo.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking up to the land from the Sugarpine Road cul de sac. The old graded house pad is in the upper left section, and the southeast corner is in the top right section of the photo. This view captures the height and slope of our land. That 'lovely' green stripe is evidence that if we get the land we will have to defend it against trespassers and their ATVs and SUVs and motorcycles.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking northeast up at the land from the side of Sugarpine Road. Now the slope is clearly steep.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking west and slightly northwest from Greentree Place. The camera is just about at the southeast lot marker. We were happy to know that cluster of oaks nearest to us will be ours. Another cluster of smaller oaks are in the left part of the photo at the downhill, southernmost, section of the land. The large oak tree and the large old twin junipers on the west edge of the land might not be on the land.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking west along the north lot line of the land. Somewhere in there we will have to place the house. We hope it will be on the pad that is already graded. The power pole means that if we have to connect, the cost will be less, we hope.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking east across the north side of the land toward Greentree Place.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking south from the side of Mountain Street near the northwest lot marker. Now this is what really sold us. The view is spectacular.

February 12, 2010: We are now looking south from the edge of the house pad looking down the slope. It looks like a lot of elbow work in the form of brush clearing has to be done!

February 12, 2010: We are now looking north from the house pad up at Mountain Street near the northwest lot marker. If I look hard enough, I think I can just begin to see the outline of a two-story house with a tuck-under garage beginning to appear between me and the car...

February 12, 2010: We are now looking at what was another critical factor in our decision, 'Mother Juniper'. She is clearly the oldest surviving member of her family, the matriarch of our hillside. She is on the neighboring parcel of land, but I will treat her as 'our own' and take care of her, until her owners appear, or the gods take her down. Hopefully either of those events will wait until long after I am gone. A couple hundred years would be too soon!

February 12, 2010: When we first arrived at the land this was the first thing we focused on and took our first photo - Mt. Shasta! Now that's the most important critical factor in our decision to buy.

February 12, 2010: This was the photo I sent out to the entire family and friends lists to let them know that we had gotten an accepted offer on the land. The direct distance in miles is about 30+/- from our land. By road it is closer to 40, about 50 miles if you go to Weed.
